Most people renting a dumpster are already having a stressful week. The kitchen is in pieces, the roof is half off, or a family member has passed and there is a house full of forty years to sort out. The last thing anyone needs is a hauler who quotes one price, invoices another, and drops a container across the mailbox.
We started YJW Dumpster Rental in 2013 with one truck and one rule: tell people the truth about what it costs and show up when we said we would. 13 years later that has not changed. Jake Yordy still answers the phone most mornings, and our drivers still walk the drop before they back in.
We run out of 7022 W Middle Rd here in Peoria, which means we are not routing a truck down from Springfield or up from Bloomington when you need a container today. What makes hauling in Peoria different
The alley is often the only place it fits
Peoria was platted long before anybody owned two cars. Through the West Bluff, Uplands, Moss-Bradley, Randolph-Roanoke and High Wine you get original driveways a single car wide, and plenty of houses with no driveway at all — which is what the rear alley on the old grid is for. Several of those districts also sit under City of Peoria historic preservation rules, so exterior work can need review before it starts. Old houses, heavy debris
This is one of the oldest housing markets in the state. Pre-1940 Victorians, foursquares and bungalows, full basements under nearly all of them, and plaster and lath behind the walls — roughly two to three times the weight of drywall for the same volume. A room that would fill a 20 in a modern house can put you over tonnage in the same can here. Storm work comes in waves
Nobody around here has forgotten the November 2013 EF4 that took out a large part of Washington, or the August 2020 derecho that flattened trees from one side of the county to the other. Add Illinois River flooding through Creve Coeur, East Peoria and the bottomlands and storm work is recurring, not occasional. When it hits, every roofer and restoration crew wants a container the same week. Weight and the landscape waste ban
Central Illinois freeze-thaw heaves and cracks driveways, patios and flatwork every winter, so replacement is constant — and broken concrete, brick, tile, sod with soil attached and landscape rock at roughly 2,400–2,800 lbs per cubic yard all hit legal transport weight in a container that still looks half empty. That material belongs in a 10 yard, twice, not a 30 once. Straight talk from Peoria and central Illinois
Jake was the only one who asked what the house was before he quoted a size. 1912 foursquare, plaster walls, and he told me straight that a 30 would go over weight before it went over the rails. Two 20s instead. He was right, and nobody else even asked.
Derecho took two silver maples down across the drive and half the county was calling the same week. YJW had a can out the next morning and told me up front that the limbs had to ride separate from the fence panels because Illinois will not landfill brush. Saved me a rejected load.
Basement took four feet of water after the June storms. I was ready to throw everything in one big box. Their driver walked it with me, told me wet carpet and wet drywall weigh a fortune, and put a 20 on the alley side of the house so we were not carrying it around the block.

How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Peoria?
Most of the time, same day if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. We run our own trucks out of 7022 W Middle Rd in Peoria, so we are not waiting on a dispatcher two counties away. During storm cleanup and peak spring remodeling weeks it can stretch to 48 hours, and we will tell you honestly when you call.
What does a flat rate actually include?
Delivery, pickup, an agreed rental period and a set tonnage allowance with disposal included. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee, no admin fee. The only way the number changes is if you go over the weight allowance or keep the container longer than agreed, and we tell you both limits before we deliver.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Plenty of our customers text us a photo of where they want it and go to work. All we need is clear access, a spot free of cars and low branches, and permission to be on the property. If the only way in is a narrow original drive or the rear alley, tell us when you book and we will schedule accordingly.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We put protection boards under the wheels and rails on every residential delivery, which spreads the load instead of concentrating it on four small contact patches. The Peoria County complication is Illinois freeze-thaw, which heaves and cracks driveways here long before a truck ever arrives, so we photograph the existing condition on arrival. Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Peoria?
On your own driveway, generally no municipal permit. In the public street or right-of-way you usually do, through the City of Peoria — or Illinois DOT on a state highway like IL-29 or IL-8. Pekin, Morton, East Peoria, Bartonville and unincorporated Peoria County each run separate processes. The one people forget is historic district review: several older neighbourhoods sit under City preservation rules, so exterior work can need approval first. What can I not put in the dumpster?
Wet paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, asbestos-containing material, propane and other pressurised cylinders, lead-acid batteries, medical waste, tires and appliances. Illinois also keeps electronics such as televisions and computers out of the landfill, and it bans landscape waste outright — grass, leaves, brush and branches go to a composting facility as their own clean load, never mixed in. Everything else on a normal cleanout or renovation is fine. Rules do change, so ask us before it goes in.
