10 Yard Dumpster roll-off container in Peoria, CO

Small box, heavy loads

10 Yard Dumpster Rental in Peoria, CO

The size nobody plans for until the scale settles the argument. Freeze-thaw-shattered concrete, chimney brick, tile and thinset, sod and soil — dense material fills a 10 yard by weight long before it ever fills it by volume. That is the whole point of the box.

A 10 yard roll-off is 12 feet long, 8 feet wide and about three and a half feet tall — call it three pickup loads. On a lot of Peoria jobs it is the only container that makes any sense, and not because the pile is small. It is because the pile is dense. Weight stops a truck, not volume, and central Illinois turns out plenty of heavy material.

Why people choose the 10 yard

Run the arithmetic once and you will never guess again. Broken concrete, brick, tile and packed soil all run roughly 2,400 to 2,800 pounds per cubic yard. Four cubic yards of shattered driveway — a slab barely bigger than a parking space — is already better than three tons, and that sits in the bottom third of the box. The 10 yard is sized so a legal payload and a full container arrive at about the same moment. Nothing larger does that with dense debris, which is why our Peoria dumpster sizing guide starts with weight instead of cubic yards.

So a full driveway replacement off Sterling Avenue or up in the West Bluff does not call for a 40. It calls for a 10, usually two or three of them in sequence. Peoria winters do half the demolition for you: hard freeze-thaw cycles heave and crack aprons and sidewalks until the slab comes up in pieces. We set one box, your crew loads to the fill line, we haul it and drop an empty the next morning. Our concrete and heavy debris hauling is built on swaps, not on one giant container no truck can legally lift.

Old Peoria housing feeds this box steadily. Pre-1940 bungalows and foursquares shed chimney brick by the pallet when a flue comes down, and a hall bath gut in the Uplands produces tile, mortar and thinset that weighs far more than the pile looks. Stripped sod carries soil in the root mat — one pallet runs close to a ton. Twelve feet of steel also tucks into the narrow single-width drives the old grid was built with, and protection boards go under the rails on every delivery. See residential dumpster rental for the household side of the work.

Good fit for

  • Driveway, apron and sidewalk tear-out loaded in stages
  • Clean broken concrete split by freeze-thaw cracking
  • Chimney brick, block and old foundation stone
  • Tile, mortar and thinset from a hall bath gut
  • Sod stripping with soil still packed in the roots
  • Clean fill dirt from a small grading correction
  • Landscape rock, river cobble and pea gravel
  • Single-layer tear-off on a small ranch roof

Not the right size for

  • Whole-house cleanouts full of bulky furniture
  • Deck and porch demolition — framing eats volume
  • Multi-room remodels making light, airy debris
  • New construction framing and packaging waste

Will it fit?

Give the truck about 60 feet of straight approach, roughly 10 and a half feet of width, and 20 feet or more of overhead for the hoist arm. On Peoria's older tree-lined grid that overhead is the real trouble — low limbs and service drops hang right over the apron. In the West Bluff, Moss-Bradley and Randolph-Roanoke we often set from the rear alley instead, which is usually the cleaner answer. Nothing sits on a bluff grade; we find level ground or move the box. Protection boards go under the rails every time. On soft spring ground, gravel township lanes out toward Brimfield, or open acreage, flag the well head and septic field before we roll in.

Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

10 Yard Dumpster FAQs

Why would a whole driveway replacement only need a 10 yard dumpster?

Because concrete runs about 2,400 to 2,800 pounds per cubic yard. A two-car Peoria driveway at four inches thick is close to ten tons of rubble once it is broken, and no roll-off leaves your property over legal axle weight. The answer is never a bigger box — it is a small box hauled several times. We stage the swaps so your crew is never standing around, but call before demo day so the rotation is already on the schedule instead of being built around your breakdown.

How many pickup loads does a 10 yard dumpster hold?

About three full-size pickup beds loaded level. That comparison is honest on volume and badly misleading on weight, because three heaped truckloads of broken concrete is more than a half-ton pickup has any business carrying. Use the pickup number when you are sizing bulky material and use the tonnage allowance for anything dense. If your pile sits somewhere between the two — mixed demo with a lot of masonry in it — describe what is actually in it and we will pick the size for you.

Can I put dirt and sod in a 10 yard in Peoria?

Yes, and it is usually the right container for both. Clean fill dirt with no rock, root balls or trash mixed through it is straightforward, and stripped sod is heavy enough that a bigger box would go overweight half full. What cannot ride along is loose landscape waste. Illinois bans grass, leaves, brush and branches from landfills statewide, so green waste has to be a separate clean load for composting — see yard waste removal. Rules do change, so confirm current requirements before you load.

Will a 10 yard fit in an old Peoria driveway?

This is the size that fits when nothing else does. Twelve feet of box leaves room on a single-width drive without blocking the walk or hanging into the street, which matters on the pre-1940 grid where drives were built for one narrow car. Where the drive is genuinely too tight, the rear alley behind the house is often better ground. Street placement can require a permit, so read our notes on Peoria dumpster permits and confirm current rules with the city.

What happens if I overload a 10 yard with concrete?

The driver will not lift it, and that is the right call. An overweight box is unsafe on the hoist and illegal on the road, so the practical outcome is that somebody offloads the excess by hand and we come back another day — the worst possible result for your schedule. We mark a fill line for dense material and walk it with you at delivery so there is no argument later. When you are unsure, load lower and take the second haul. You only lose that afternoon once.
