Demolition Debris
Demolition Debris Dumpster Rental in Peoria, IL
Garages, sheds, farm outbuildings and interior gut-outs across Peoria County. Mixed heavy loads sized by weight rather than by eye, protection boards under every rail, and a straight answer about NESHAP inspection before anybody swings a hammer.
Demolition debris is not remodel debris. A garage teardown puts framing, shingles, siding, slab-edge concrete and a hundred pounds of buried fasteners into the same box, and the load reaches its weight limit while it still looks half empty from the driveway. We size demo containers off what the structure is actually made of, not off how big it looks standing. Tell us the footprint, the roof, the era and whether the slab is coming out, and we will tell you what belongs in your driveway.
The work runs from town out into the country. Inside Peoria it is detached garages off the alleys, sunroom additions, and interior gut-outs in West Bluff rentals where plaster and lath is coming off the studs by the wheelbarrow load. Out toward Brimfield, Princeville and Tremont it is farm outbuildings, corn cribs, machine sheds and the occasional grain bin. Those rural jobs bring their own problems: long lanes, township gravel roads that soften in spring, and septic fields nobody wants a loaded truck parked over.
Before any of it starts, deal with the regulatory side. Demolition in Illinois generally triggers a NESHAP asbestos inspection and a written notification, and it applies to far more small structures than owners expect. Permits for work inside the city come through the City of Peoria. We cannot accept asbestos-containing material in any container, full stop. Our central Illinois construction debris guide and the Peoria permit rundown cover the paperwork end.
Demolition Work We Haul Around Peoria
Detached Garage Teardown
A single-car alley garage produces framing, shingles, siding and a slab. Structure and slab are two separate loads — concrete is far too heavy to ride with the wood.
Shed And Deck Removal
Backyard sheds, sagging carports and rotted decks. Small in footprint, awkward in volume once the roof panels and railings are broken down and stacked flat.
Interior Gut-Out
Plaster and lath coming off the studs in an older West Bluff house. Plaster runs roughly two to three times the weight of drywall for the same volume, so weight fills the box first.
Farm Outbuilding
Machine sheds, corn cribs and hog houses out toward Brimfield and Princeville. Old rural lumber is dense, full of nails, and often hiding sheet material worth testing first.
Grain Bin Removal
Corrugated steel, floor sections and augers. Most of a bin is scrap steel with real value, so we separate it out rather than burying it in a debris load.
Chimney And Porch Demo
Brick, block, mortar and old flashing off a century-old house. Masonry is a weight load and belongs in a small container on a swap schedule, never in the demo box.
Fire And Storm Damage
Structures written off after a fire, a straight-line wind event or a tornado. Insurance timelines are tight, so we schedule around the adjuster instead of the other way around.
Commercial Tenant Strip-Out
Drop ceilings, partitions, store fixtures and flooring out of a retail or office space. Night and weekend swaps keep the loading dock clear during business hours.
Sizing A Mixed Demolition Load
Demo loads are mixed, which makes them heavier per cubic yard than anything else we haul except pure masonry. A 20 yard is the honest choice for an interior gut-out with plaster, tile or a lot of dimensional lumber in it. A 30 yard fits a one- or two-car garage teardown where the material is mostly framing, siding and shingles. The 40 yard earns its keep on bulky, light material — roof panels, ductwork, insulation, a big pole barn — and it is the wrong box for anything dense. If the slab is coming out too, that is a separate container rather than the bottom layer of this one. Give us the era of the building and we can usually call the size over the phone.

Federal NESHAP rules generally require a thorough asbestos inspection before a structure is demolished, plus written notification to the state before work begins, even when the inspection turns up nothing. Illinois EPA administers that program and the Illinois Department of Public Health handles licensing for asbestos inspectors and workers. Owners of small garages and sheds are regularly surprised that it applies to them at all. Ask before you schedule the excavator, not after. On our side the rule is simple: no asbestos-containing material in any container, ever, and we will move a delivery rather than take a load we are not sure about. Demolition permits inside the city go through Peoria development staff, and utility locates are a separate call. Requirements get revised, so confirm the current process. Our asbestos and lead paint guide is a starting point, not legal advice.

Demolition Debris Removal FAQs
Do I need an asbestos inspection before demolishing a garage?
Usually yes. Federal NESHAP rules apply to demolition broadly, not only to large commercial buildings, and Illinois requires notification before work starts even when no asbestos is found. Illinois EPA runs the program and IDPH licenses the inspectors. Get the inspection done early, because the notification carries a waiting period. Requirements change, so confirm the current process with the agency before you schedule anything.
Can I put asbestos siding or floor tile in the dumpster?
No. We cannot accept asbestos-containing material in any container under any circumstances, and that includes transite siding, old nine-inch floor tile and its mastic, pipe and duct wrap, and textured ceiling material. It has to come out through a licensed abatement contractor and go to a facility permitted to receive it. If something turns up mid-job, stop and call us. We would rather move your delivery than haul a contaminated load.
Do I need a permit for demolition in Peoria?
For work inside the city, yes — demolition permits go through the City of Peoria, and utility disconnects have to be confirmed before anything comes down. Outside the city limits, check with Peoria County or your township. Call locates through JULIE either way. Permit rules and fees are revised periodically, so verify with the office before you file.
Can concrete go in the same container as demolition debris?
Not if you want the load to leave the property. A cubic yard of concrete runs roughly twenty-four hundred to twenty-eight hundred pounds, and a few yards of it in the bottom of a demo box puts the whole container over legal axle weight before the wood even goes in. Slabs, footings and masonry ride in their own small container. It is a separate order and it is worth doing properly.
Can you get a truck down a farm lane near Brimfield or Princeville?
Usually, with a heads-up. We need a firm surface, somewhere to turn around and clearance from low limbs and overhead lines. Spring is the real problem: a gravel lane that carries a pickup fine will rut badly under a loaded roll-off truck after a wet week. Tell us the surface and the season when you book and we will either set the can nearer the road or wait for the ground to firm up.
